What is Havening®?

Havening is a therapeutic series of techniques which are used very effectively to release someone from the emotions associated with a past traumatic experience and also for personal development and coaching.

Havening is scientifically based on natural neurochemical reponses in the brain and demonstrates long-lasting and often rapid relief – enabling individuals to once again feel in control and not be held back by unwanted anxieties.

The Science

Our brains are programmed to look for danger and protect us by triggering a fight, flight or freeze reaction to a dangerous or harmful event or condition. That programming occurs throughout our lives and is memorised as a “trauma”.

The brain effectively posts, and locks into place receptors, the equivalent of “lookouts”, to identify this danger in future so it can take action.

Unfortunately sights, smells, and sounds that might have been present at the original event can also trigger an unwanted defensive response.

The Havening Process

There is no need for a Client to share what is troubling them or to talk at length through a painful event or feeling. This helps with a feeling of still keeping control and it can avoid difficulties where confidential, embarrassing or private information might otherwise be shared.

The process involves soothing touch on the face, arms, and hands – by the practitioner, self, or another trusted person – which help to create a safe mental space and visualisation and distraction techniques to allow the healing process to take effect.

he release of calming, natural neurochemicals through the application Havening Touch enables the emotional association with an event or circumstance to be disconnected and permits the brain to logically process the information it receives. The unwanted response no longer needs to happen.

The Benefits

Managing Event Nerves

Whether it's a presentation or examinations, these are a necessary part of work and learning, but are frequently viewed with such stress that a person can feel overwhelmed, inadequate, underprepared and even physically ill.

Sometimes a phobia can develop around exams. Sometimes a person will go to great lengths to avoid standing up in front of others. A reluctance to engage with colleagues and avoidance of social events can lead to a feeling of exclusion and poor performance.
