Front End Engineering Design (FEED)
You’ve decided on a project, or a plan, or just a concept. Unless you have an in-house project team poised and ready to design and build, based on initial concept ideas, then you’ll need to get some help in.
Our Front End Engineering Design service could be just what you need…
What’s your pain?
You’ve decided on a project, or a plan, or just a concept.
The next step is to work out how much it costs, how long it takes to build and deliver, who will develop, design, build and commission, and how do you demonstrate it does exactly what you thought it should?
Unless you have a project team in-house poised and ready to design and build on the basis of initial concept ideas, then you’ll need to get some help in.
And to do that they’ll need more solid information!

Why we get it
Any project that involves outside parties requires the information to be as accurate as possible, because so often you get misinterpretations, assumptions, and can get channelled to the nearest standard or most favourable option for the vendor.
And that might not do what you wanted.
And you end up having to unpick the details and spend significant effort and time trying to match what’s been offered with what you want.
That’s where some front-end engineering design (FEED) input is valuable: it enables you to put your concepts, ideas and needs into a form that vendors can say “Great. We understand what you need” and still allows them to use their specialist expertise for the best solutions.
Not only that, by eliminating a significant amount of uncertainty, the pricing is more robust, you’re not paying for more than one supplier to deliver the same parts and you’ve minimised the possibility that things have been missed.
Less time fixing errors and omissions = keeping costs and time under control.
How we help you
A Front-End Design isn’t just about technical information. There’s a need for an overview of the process through to commissioning. How the project is going to be brought into use heavily influences the earlier stages so this can’t be skipped.
We work on the principle that a project design and development follows 5 stages:
1. Identification of scope, outline requirements, design definition, sign-off definition and budget allocation.
2. Design development, documentation, risk assessment and design review.
3. Enquiries and tender assessment; construction target cost commitment; procurement and subcontract awards
4. Construction, inspection, and construction validation (FAT)/support
5. Testing, commissioning, training, manuals and handover
We build from the earliest stages and under our FEED programme, take it through to completion of stage 2, although we often support the following vendor enquiry assessments and negotiations as well. This package of design documentation is also used in later stages for validation of the supplied equipment and commissioning.
Whilst this might sound like a lot of documentation, it actually ensures you get what you need, because the supplier knows what they should provide, it removes confusion and results in a clean and manageable project that is remembered for being remarkably unflustered.
